Children discussed their plans for the perfect
playground at Design Day in 2006.

The plan in action during the
Build Days in September 2007. |
An Open Letter from Marsha Galespie - Summer 2006
I began "hanging out"
with a younger guy at the playground at Somerset Avenue and the beach.
(My 14-month grandson Peter.) I knew we were sitting in a playground
surrounded by love as the playground was donated to the city as a
memorial to Joe and Syd Abrams by Ron Abrams and a wonderful group of
local residents who wanted a better playground for their children. But
that was 9 years ago and playgrounds have changed! And I sat and
imagined a different picture.
This project is an opportunity for Ventnor to show how special it
is by rallying the Downbeach community at a grass roots level to
provide a much needed recreation area to meet all children's needs and
abilities.
The project already has the blessing of Ron Abrams and many
residents that participated before. They are eager to see a new vision
for area children.
I have presented the idea to the Leathers Association who build
unique playgrounds around the country, the Ventnor and Margate leaders
and superintendents, the public and private schools, area businesses,
the recreation department, Police and Fire Departments, the Ventnor
Home School Association, Ventnor Mothers Club, the Historical Society,
local residents and summer visitors, too, to SHOW HOW COMMUNITY BUILDS
COMMUNITY.
I hope you will join this project to create a truly unique
experience for Ventnor - one that will take us from designing to
building and maintaining a "new jewel" for our city and compliment our
new Library, our premiere beaches and our schools.

“We are very please
with the new playground, but more importantly the children we
bring love it! It’s great to have a place where all children,
regardless of their abilities, are able to play.”

"It has been great working on the CSURE web site and
helping to promote the idea of creating a better place for kids

"..on
the last day of the build, in the pouring rain after 8 hours of
hammering, drilling, and measuring, we walked home on the
boardwalk with huge smiles and warm thoughts of all the
volunteers - and all the children and families who will build
lifetime memories as a result.'
